Overview
A climb through five distinct climate zones on the way to the highest point in Africa — rainforest gives way to moorland, then alpine desert, then glacier and rock near the summit. No technical climbing skills required, just sustained effort and time for the body to adjust to altitude.Summit night starts before midnight, climbing by headlamp to reach the crater rim for sunrise. The descent on the final days is steep and fast after the slow, deliberate pace going up.

Hike Schedule
Day 1 — Moshi to the trailhead, ascend through rainforest to first camp
Day 2 — Climb through moorland to high camp, expanding views over the plains
Day 3 — Cross alpine desert, acclimatization day built into the route
Day 4 — Continue across the high plateau toward the base of the summit route
Day 5 — Night ascent to the summit at sunrise, long descent to a lower camp
Day 6 — Final descent through forest back to the trailhead, drive to Moshi
